To help assist you in answering some commonly asked questions, here are a few that have been asked a lot. Contact Us
Answer: We are NOT an "in your face" program to "straighten out" at risk kids. Young Marines enroll in the program, and must maintain a good standing in school. Parents and Young Marines must fully support the program, for the program to be successful. We are NOT a recruitment tool for any branch of military services. We do NOT promote military careers to our Young Marines. We are NOT a baby sitting program, nor a summer camp. We meet twice a month, and on ocassion 3 times if training , event calls for it. However, any youth wishing to pursue military careers, this program will assist in making that profession easier by gaining the knowledge of those disciplines and educations.
Answer: We generally meet 2 - 3 times a month. During summer months we usually have a lot more events and activities going on, so we might meet to 3-4 times a month during the summer. Young Marines will be offered community service and is optional, which goes towards ribbons and certain promotions/ranks.
Answer:Yes, this program helps on so many levels. Any Young Marine who stays with the program and is in good standing will receive a successful discharge from the program. Any Young Marine who works their way up to the rank of YM/Sgt will be able to be promoted from a Private out of Marine Corps Boot Camp to the rank of Private First Class.
Answer: Understand that the program is not "The Boot Camp". The Boot Camp is only a small portion of this entire program. It is 40 hours of instruction/training to allow the youth to adapt to Young Marine life, learn the basics, learn product knowledge, earn the uniform and title of a Young Marine.
This is a "rolling" program. It does not have a certain date and time that is any better than others. For example: If we have a recruit training class starting in August, you can join in March and receive 5 months of training, don't wait until August. You will miss out on all kinds of activities, events, and services by just paying the enrollment fee and paperwork to get started. Recruit Training is just the step in the process that allows you to wear the uniform and take it to the next level.
Answer: Any person(s) working directly with any of the youth are Registered Adult Volunteers. These are people who normally have a child within the unit and have turned in personal information to me(Commanding Officer). I then do reference checks and submit all information to National Headquarters for final approval. They will do a background check and give the final approval. I am committed to only allowing volunteers working with this Young Marine program that I am comfortable with, being that I have a child who is 8 years old in the program as well. There will NEVER be a time when your boy will be alone with another female adult volunteer and the same holds true with your girl being alone with a male adult volunteer. There will always be an 'open door' policy for any and all youth to discuss and talk openly of situations that they may feel uncormfortable with.In our unit Supervision will be paramount and taken seriously. Any person working with kids in a training setting or in a support position will always be in the presence of a RAV(Registered Adult Volunteer).
